Macpherson Kelley has appointed three senior lawyers across property, litigation and tax, including a former Hall & Wilcox partner.

Brad Marland has been appointed as principal lawyer in the Brisbane property team, James Lovel joins the litigation team in Brisbane as special counsel, and Thomas Abraham also joins the firm as special counsel in the tax team in Melbourne.

Marland joins from Hall & Wilcox, where he was a partner and is an experienced practitioner in commercial, industrial, and retail property law. His practice encompasses real estate funds, leasing, solar farm agreements, and retirement village developments.

Lovel brings over 12 years of post-qualified experience to the firm and, most recently, was the director of his own firm, Lovels. He has advised and acted for diverse clients and has experience across franchise disputes, taxation disputes, and property-related litigation.

Abraham has extensive experience in Australia-wide state taxation and dispute resolution and joins from PCL Lawyers, where he was an associate partner. His practice covers a wide range of tax services, including land tax, duties, payroll tax, and congestion levy matters, assisting clients with exemption applications, investigations, and appeals.

National managing principal lawyer Grant Guenther said these new appointments reflect the firm’s commitment to expanding its expertise across key practice areas.

“Macpherson Kelley is focused on strengthening our capability in core practice areas, and each of these talented professionals brings unique experience and capability to our firm,” he said.

“Not only in experience but also a shared understanding of the firm’s values, which makes them a perfect fit for Macpherson Kelley.”
