Moulis Legal adds infrastructure, sustainability and energy head
Moulis Legal has welcomed back a former partner as its new head of infrastructure, sustainability and energy (ISE).
After working for the firm in 2008 and then again from 2012 to 2018, Christopher Hewitt has returned to Moulis Legal as head of ISE.
According to Moulis Legal, ISE is an emerging, industry-led project group that will work alongside the firm’s existing teams to address the evolving commercial and legal challenges arising from the global energy transition. These include regulatory change; the shift towards sustainable infrastructure; due diligence, project structuring and documentation; and public and private finance arrangements and incentives.
Based in Moulis Legal’s Brisbane office, the ISE group will offer legal advice on regulatory compliance, planning and energy law, risk management, commercial arrangements, infrastructure and construction across Australia and internationally as needed.
Hewitt returns to Moulis Legal after holding senior executive and advisory roles, including with two of the world’s top international energy and infrastructure consultancies. Most recently, he led KBR’s energy transition and sustainability division, where he managed and advised on nationally significant energy, infrastructure, and sustainability projects and key investments across Asia.
“I’m excited to return to Moulis Legal and lead this innovative project group. The infrastructure and energy sectors are undergoing unprecedented transformation,” he said.
“I look forward to collaborating with the talented team here to provide clients with cutting-edge legal and strategic advice that helps them navigate the complexities of the global energy transition in a practical and protected way.”
This follows the appointment of new chief executive officer Zarmina Nasir in August last year – and managing partner and chair Daniel Moulis said Hewitt’s proven track record of driving successful outcomes on high-stakes projects across Australia, Asia, North America and southern Africa makes him a perfect fit at a pivotal time for the firm.
“Christopher’s expertise in domestic and international markets will add immeasurably to our existing experience in the energy, infrastructure, and sustainability sectors,” he said.
“His ability to provide strategic and commercial insight across complex regulatory environments will be a tremendous asset to clients looking for hands-on legal guidance for their energy transition and sustainability projects.”
