Corrs adds 5 new Melbourne-based partners
National law firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth has appointed five new partners for its Melbourne office, all of whom join from BigLaw rivals.
Corrs has added five new partners to its Melbourne office as it moves to bolster its investments in tax, commercial litigation, banking and finance, and insurance.
Luke Imbriano has also come across from KPMG Law, and he started in the firm’s tax controversy practice on 6 August.
Lucinda Hill joined Corrs’ commercial litigation practice on 5 August, having come across from Ashurst, where she served as that firm’s head of disputes in Melbourne.
Paul Sroka is coming across from HWL Ebsworth in September and will be part of Corrs’ banking and finance practice.
Lucy Terracall will work in Corrs’ insurance practice and is set to join later in 2024 from Clayton Utz.
Speaking about the hires, Corrs chief executive and senior partner Gavin MacLaren (pictured) said: “Angelina, Luke, Lucinda, Paul, and Lucy are all highly respected in their areas of expertise.
“Our clients will benefit from their significant experience, insights and commercial capability, and the appointments will add considerable value to our Melbourne-based offering.
“We are delighted to welcome these experienced practitioners to the Corrs partnership.”
The news follows the firm’s appointment of four new partners in June, its reappointment, in mid-February, of MacLaren as its chief executive and senior partner until 2033, and its appointment of a debt capital markets partner from BigLaw rival King & Wood Mallesons in mid-January.
Late last week, AFR reported on what it labelled a “mass exodus” from Corrs, with partners from the firm’s employment and industrial relations practices leaving for BigLaw rival King & Wood Mallesons.
In a statement provided to Lawyers Weekly, a KWM spokesperson confirmed the appointment of six partners and one senior consultant to its national employee relations and safety practice.
“We respect the transition process and obligations to their current firm, and look forward to welcoming them once they are in a position to join us,” the spokesperson said.
The news also follows confirmation from workplace regulator SafeWork NSW late last month that it was “making inquiries” into Corrs in response to allegations of psychosocial hazards.
