Ertunc Ozen SC, a criminal barrister operating from Maurice Byers Chambers in Sydney’s CBD, was charged with nine counts of common assault and one count of assault causing actual bodily harm, as reported by The Daily Telegraph late last week.

Police alleged Ozen hit his wife repeatedly, spat on her, pushed her from their apartment and called her a “bad woman”.

Ozen has strenuously denied all allegations.

It was alleged the conduct was in breach of an apprehended domestic violence order imposed on Ozen earlier this year.

According to the newspaper, Ozen attempted to have his identity hidden under a non-publication order, but it was refused.

The matter will return to the Magistrates Court early next year.

According to his profile on the Maurice Byers Chambers website, Ozen’s practice includes appeals, parole and post-sentence orders, white-collar and corporate crime, and work health and safety.

Ozen was admitted to the Bar in 2004 and appointed silk in 2018.

In 2023, he represented a man in the Downing Centre Local Court who allegedly organised to smuggle $40 million in cocaine into Sydney.

He also assisted Sydney lawyer Mahmoud Abbas in preventing police from accessing his computer after he was shot.

The NSW Bar is reportedly aware of the allegations.
