Paul Venus joined the firm on 1 July, bringing with him over 25 years of experience in dispute resolution and litigation.

He was previously the managing partner of his former firm, where he worked on complex litigation, commercial law advice, corporate law, and technology, media and communications for 12 years.

“I am thrilled to join a firm known for its dynamic, collaborative and enthusiastic partnership,” Venus said of his new role.

“Piper Alderman’s dispute resolution team is renowned nationwide for its extensive experience in handling complex and market-leading cases, and I am eager to work with them.”

In addition to dispute resolution, Venus has experience in commercial and corporate law and other areas that require regulatory knowledge and commercial outcomes.

Throughout his career, he has been a non-executive director and chair of audit and risk committees for CleanCo Queensland, the City of Logan Mayor’s Charity Trust, Metro South Health and Hospital Service, and the Princess Alexandra Research Foundation.

Commenting on the appointment, acting managing partner Tim O’Callaghan said Venus is a “respected practitioner” who has delivered “excellent commercial outcomes” for clients.

“His expertise and approach match Piper Alderman’s offerings and capabilities,” O’Callaghan said.

“By adding Paul to our team, we strengthen our growth strategy for Queensland, which is an important part of our national strategy.”

The firm’s head of the Brisbane office, Nick Burkett, added the team was “thrilled” to welcome Venus.

“His profound knowledge in commercial and corporate law, coupled with his ability to navigate complex regulatory landscapes and achieve efficient commercial outcomes, will complement and strengthen our already robust practice areas,” Burkett said.
