Clayton Utz hires 2 from rival BigLaw firm
Clayton Utz has appointed a new legal consultant and senior associate duo, both of whom join the firm’s Brisbane office and bring more than 40 years of combined experience.
In a move to strengthen its capabilities in corporate law, Clayton Utz has hired former Baker McKenzie partner Jim Peterson as a legal consultant, as well as senior associate Lisa Houston, who also joins from Baker McKenzie.
“It’s a testament to the strong culture and quality of our team here in Brisbane, and we’re privileged to have Jim and Lisa join us,” she said.
“Jim has been a leading corporate lawyer in Queensland for many years and is highly regarded by senior executives for his wise counsel and governance experience. He has an outstanding reputation for advising on complex and high-profile transactions over many years.”
These new appointments will bolster the firm’s M&A and commercial capabilities, added Daveson.
“We have seen an increase in M&A activity nationally since the start of the year, although capital markets continue to remain challenging,” she said.
“In Queensland, we’ve continued to experience strong M&A and commercial activity across the board and are excited to grow the practice in line with the growth the Queensland economy has experienced since 2020.”
