Russell Kennedy (RK) has taken a team of 14 – including two principals, a special counsel, three senior associates, two associates, three lawyers, and three legal assistants – from HWL Ebsworth.

The team, led by principals David Vorchheimer and James Lofting, together with special counsel Mark Bartley, bring decades of experience acting across all client sectors in planning, environment, water, land acquisition, property, roads, and associated fields, RK said in a statement, with the addition of the team complementing the BigLaw firm’s practices in planning, environment, water, land acquisition and compliance.

The three senior associates are Nick Sissons, Nick Bradley, and Sonia Narduzzo.

The addition of the team from HWL Ebsworth will see RK’s government, environment, and planning team swell to nine principals and more than 20 lawyers.

It is understood that some members of the team have already started at RK, with the balance commencing in the coming weeks. The two principals will join the BigLaw firm on 23 July.

Speaking about the team’s hire, RK managing partner Paul Gleeson said: “David, James and Mark are widely recognised as leading practitioners, bringing a wealth of experience to our growing team and adding depth and resources, further enhancing our client offering.”

Chair of RK’s partnership, Rohan Harris, said: “This is yet another important step in the firm’s growth, with many shared clients and the complementary expertise of the teams, the combined offering cementing our team as a leading practice into the future.”
