HWL Ebsworth has promoted 79 of its lawyers: six to the partnership, 17 to special counsel, 22 to senior associate, and 34 to associate.

The half-dozen new partners work across five different practice groups and are located in five of the BigLaw firm’s national offices.

The firm’s newest partners are Danielle Flint (workplace relations and safety, Perth), Ron Galea (insurance, statutory classes, Sydney), Adam Goldner (corporate and commercial, Hobart), Craig McIver (insurance, Brisbane), Michael Owens (property, Brisbane), and Brian Rom (construction and infrastructure, Melbourne).

The firm has not released the names of the other lawyers promoted to more senior roles.

Late last week, HWL Ebsworth unveiled its new leadership and governance structure, first announced in May, under which a board of partners will replace the firm’s existing managing partner model.

The new structure was promoted by the tragic passing of the firm’s managing partner in March, Juan Martinez.

In a statement at the time, the BigLaw firm called Martinez an “inestimable leader” and a “giant of the Australian legal profession”.

Speaking about the promotions round, the firm’s chief operating officer, Kris Hopkins – who is set to assume the role of CEO – said: “Each of the team members being recognised today [has] demonstrated an impressive dedication to their careers, their colleagues, their clients, and the firm as a whole over an extended period of time.

“They have shown that they are technically outstanding and that they are committed to playing their role in the future success of the firm.“

The firm currently comprises 1,696 staff, including 278 partners, 1,045 other legal staff and 373 support staff across its nine offices across the country, located in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Darwin, Melbourne, Hobart, Norwest (North West Sydney), Perth and Sydney.

HWL has the biggest partnership of any law firm in Australia.

The news also follows the firm’s promotion of 64 lawyers to more senior roles in February of this year, including eight to its national partnership.
