Cornwalls names new national chair
East coast-based firm Cornwalls has appointed one of its partners as its new national chairperson.
Glenn Hughes (pictured) has been named as Cornwalls’ new chair, succeeding John Hutchings, who has served as chair since Cornwalls’ inception as a national firm in April 2019.
Cornwalls’ chief executive, Levent Shevki, thanked Hutchings for his “valuable service” and congratulated Hughes on his appointment.
“Glenn is an outstanding lawyer with a well-deserved reputation for integrity and intelligence,” he said.
“He is ideally placed to succeed John, a legendary practitioner with over 45 years’ service as a Cornwalls partner.”
Speaking about his new role, Hughes told Lawyers Weekly: "Taking over the reins from John Hutchings, who has an impeccable record as chairperson, I hope to use the role of national chairperson to continue John’s legacy of excellence and innovation."
"More than that, I hope to instil the mindset of “gracious professionalism” as part of our culture going forward. By that I mean a culture where we are encouraged to share ideas with each other, to support each other and be willing to enable others to grow and succeed," he added.
Cornwalls was founded in 1891, and in 1903, it employed Flos Greig, the first woman admitted to practise law in Australia. It is now a full-service firm that employs over 100 lawyers in offices in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney.
Lawyers Weekly will host its inaugural Partner Summit on Thursday, 20 June 2024, at The Star, Sydney, at which speakers will address the range of opportunities and challenges for partners and partner equivalents, provide tips on how they can better approach their practice and team management, and propel their businesses towards success.
