Clyde & Co partner, plus team of 4 lawyers, join Sparke Helmore
National firm Sparke Helmore has added a partner, special counsel, senior associate, associate, and lawyer from global rival Clyde & Co for its specialty lines team.
Janette McLennan (pictured) has returned to Sparke Helmore – where she worked between 2003 and 2014 as a senior associate – following almost a decade at global firm Clyde & Co, which included eight years as a partner.
McLennan and her team commenced at the national firm earlier this week, while Eagles will start next Monday (6 May). All will be based in the firm’s Sydney office.
She is, Sparke Helmore detailed in a statement, a commercial litigator specialising in complex multi-party director and officer (D&O) claims, class actions, regulatory matters, and commercial insurance/reinsurance and “has deep connections” in the local and London market, which the firm argued will complement its existing relationships.
The news follows the firm’s addition of a partner from Holding Redlich for its Brisbane office back in July, its promotion of 28 lawyers to more senior roles in the same month, its addition of a partner from a Newcastle-based boutique in November, its promotion of four lawyers to more senior roles in late January this year, the appointment of a partner and two special counsel for its health practice in February, and the hiring of a partner from HWL Ebsworth last month.
Speaking about the new hires, Sparke Helmore specialty lines national practice head Malcolm Cameron said: “We are excited to welcome Janette back to our team. She is a market-leading financial lines practitioner who has a strong client focus and is a known and trusted pair of hands.
“Janette’s team are excellent operators, and we are delighted they have decided to join us.”
McLennan said: “I am pleased to return to Sparke Helmore and work in a team that is known for their market-leading technical excellence and collegiate culture.
“This is a great opportunity for my team to help build on already strong foundations and contribute to growing the practice for the future needs of our clients.”
