Ashurst names 17 new Aussie partners
Global law firm Ashurst has promoted its “largest-ever cohort” to its partnership, with 17 of those new partners coming from Down Under.
Ashurst has named 30 new partners globally, 17 of whom come from Australia.
The new partners span 12 of Ashurst’s 31 offices across Asia, Australia, Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), the UK and the US, and 43 per cent of the cohort are female (an 11 per cent increase on last year, the firm said).
The newest Australia-based partners at Ashurst are Clare Doneley, Rob Andersen, Luke Carbon, Edmond Park, Maria Sun, Robert Bradshaw, Guy Dwyer, Michael Voros, Adam Skibsted, Matthew Taylor, Marina Tinning, Kellie Hairsine, Linda Grace, Avideep Agarwal, Elizabeth Hristoforidis, Kate Wilson, and Jane Burton.
All new partners’ promotions will take effect on 1 May 2024.
Ashurst global chair Karen Davies (pictured) said: “For the third year running, we are delighted to appoint a record-breaking number of partners to the global partnership.
“This is a testament to the strength of our business and the ongoing confidence we have in the growth opportunities ahead.
“Our 30 new partners are an outstanding group of talented legal and consulting professionals who embody the collaborative and inclusive culture that is at the heart of our firm, and I would like to congratulate them all on their well-deserved promotion.”
The news comes after fellow global law firms Clyde & Co, Allens, and Herbert Smith Freehills named three, five, and nine Australian partners, respectively, earlier this month.
It also follows Ashurst’s taking of a commercial litigation partner from Clifford Chance late last month, its establishment of a new advisory offering with four new partner hires in mid-March, and its appointment of a senior associate from King & Wood Mallesons as a new partner in its real estate team in February.
Davies added: “This next generation of leaders represent our commitment to the growth of our business, as well as our investment into the future of the global firm and that of our greatest asset – our people.”
“Our new partners have each made a crucial contribution to the ongoing success of our clients, our people, and the firm. I am confident that each and every one of them will play a pivotal role in helping us to continue to deliver a strong performance and outpace the market, as we realise the ambitions we have set ourselves as a firm.”
Ashurst chief executive Paul Jenkins (also pictured) noted: “It is great to be celebrating this important career milestone of our new partners, of which they should be exceptionally proud. It is a point reached by merit, talent and continued drive and commitment.”
“The broad geographical and practice mix of our newly promoted partners, who cover every region in which we operate and nearly every practice group, reflects the depth of our bench and the strength of our global platform, and allow us to respond to the significant opportunities ahead, as we continue to steer our business forward and work towards achieving our 2027 strategy.”
