Clyde & Co has named three new partners (all pictured) in a global cohort of 19, with Luke O’Kane (insurance, Sydney), James Rigney (insurance, Sydney) and Melissa Tang (energy, marine, and natural resources, Sydney) all joining the Australian partnership.

The firm has also appointed four new special counsel in its insurance practice – Claudia Dennison, Jacky Li, Stuart Lloyd, and Hannes Marais – and another in its projects and construction group, William Barrington.

The news follows the firm’s naming of a new Australian managing partner in November, as well as its appointment of 13 new senior associates in Australia in July and seven new special counsel in May.

It also comes after global rival Herbert Smith Freehills named nine new Australian partners earlier this week.

Speaking about the promotions, Clyde & Co Australian managing partner Rebecca Kelly said: “Our new partners and special counsel are shining examples of Clyde & Co’s values in action with their focus on client excellence, working together as part of a global team, and celebrating and welcoming different perspectives and ideas from across the firm.”

“They offer invaluable insight and expertise to our international and local client base, helping them to understand and navigate risks and make the most of the opportunities available as the world becomes an ever more complex place to do business.”

“They represent the next generation of senior talent within the firm, and it’s fantastic to see them progress and steer their teams towards continued success. Congratulations to all as they mark the next milestone in their careers.”

The promotions are effective as of 1 May 2024.

The firm’s senior partner, Carolena Gordon, added: “At Clyde & Co, the diverse talents of our people are essential to delivering the expert advice and high level of service our clients around the world expect from us.

“All those promoted this year deliver on this day in, day out. They help us to excel as a firm and provide unparalleled support to our clients in navigating the risks they face.

“These new partners reflect the best of our firm and are a testament to the outstanding work being done across all our practice areas. I wish them every success as they start this next chapter of their careers.”
