Banking and finance partner Yechiel Belfer joins Dentons’ Melbourne office and brings with him almost two decades of legal experience.

Belfer primarily focuses on the regulation of financial services and consumer credit and has extensive experience advising on a range of regulatory matters that impact financial services providers, including financial services licensing and regulation; credit licensing and consumer credit; anti-money laundering (AML) regulation; payment systems (including stored-value cards and e-wallets); privacy (including credit reporting); distribution and disclosure (and establishment) of a wide range of banking and financial products; PPSA securities interests; and funds management.

“I am extremely happy to be joining Dentons’ highly regarded financial institutions team and contribute to the expansion of the practice in Melbourne,” Belfer said.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunities being part of the world’s largest global law firm will bring.”

This news follows a number of new additions to the firm as Dentons continues to grow its presence across the country.

These include the appointment of two employment and safety partners and a team of nine from Kennedys in March, the appointment of a special counsel from Corrs Chambers Westgarth as a new banking and finance partner in its Melbourne office in mid-February, its hiring of employment partner Edmund Burke from Holding Redlich in January, technology partner Michael Park from Allens in December 2023, and the hiring of planning and environment partner Mitchell Osborne from AJ & Co Lawyers in Brisbane in mid-October 2023.

Commenting on Belfer’s appointment, Dentons Australia chair and Australasia region chief executive Doug Stipanicev said that Belfer’s past experience with a wide range of domestic and international clients would be particularly beneficial to the firm.

“I’m delighted to welcome Yechiel Belfer to Dentons. In line with our wider growth strategy, our market-leading financial institution’s practice is growing quickly,” he said.

“Yechiel’s deep financial institutions knowledge will add significant depth to our Melbourne offering, and his cross-border experience will be particularly valuable to our clients.”
