Steve Johns has joined BigLaw firm Hall & Wilcox as their newest partner in Sydney.

The firm stated that Johns’ “practice focuses on corporate law and transactions, specialising in mergers and acquisitions, joining ventures and private capital raisings.” He additionally has expertise in the technology, biotechnology, life science, and services sectors.

By having significant experience working on transactions in Australia, US, South-East Asian and Pacific markets, Johns “offers invaluable international insights and has an extensive global network”, according to the firm.

With over 16 years of experience within the legal industry, Johns was most recently a partner at Ernst & Young, after being a partner at Bird & Bird, Norton Rose Fulbright, and Corrs Chambers Westgarth.

Hall & Wilcox stated: “Steve’s expertise complements the firm’s focus on the technology and digital economy, in which it advises clients on the full suite of technology-related transactions and projects.”

The news followed the firm’s appointment of partner Mark Montag and Shaun Whittaker from fellow BigLaw practices White & Case and Holding Redlich at the end of November last year, after the addition of 30 from boutique firm McMahon Clarke in September.

Hall & Wilcox managing partner Tony Macvean underscored how Johns’ extensive experience will be a great benefit for the firm’s expansion goals.

“Steve’s corporate and transactional experience and dedication to client service align perfectly with our firm’s values and strategic objectives. His appointment will bolster capacity and capability and expand the firm’s international reach. We’re thrilled to welcome him to the firm,” Macvean stated.

Johns outlined his eagerness towards joining the national law firm and assisting in the firm’s international growth by commenting: “I’m really excited to join Hall & Wilcox, a firm known for its innovative approach and commitment to client service.

“The opportunity to contribute to the firm’s growth, particularly in the technology and related sectors is compelling. I look forward to leveraging my international experience and network to help expand the firm’s reach in the United States and South-East Asia.”
