KWM senior associate joins Ashurst as partner in real estate team
Global law firm Ashurst has appointed a new partner for its Sydney-based real estate practice, hiring a senior associate from BigLaw rival King & Wood Mallesons.
Kate Barker (pictured), who was a senior associate at KWM and served at that global firm for seven and a half years, has joined Ashurst as its newest partner.
Ms Barker is dual-qualified in Australia and England and Wales.
The news follows the firm’s reappointment of two Australian partners to its board in August, its nabbing of two partners from Gilbert + Tobin in June, its hiring of partners from DLA Piper and NAB in the same month, the addition of partners from Hamilton Locke and Bracewell LLP in May, and its promotion of 25 lawyers, including 13 Australians, to its global partnership in April.
Speaking about Ms Barker’s appointment, Ashurst real estate group head Pauline Tan said: “We are thrilled to welcome Kate to our real estate team.
“Kate’s industry focus, client base and experience will help Ashurst continue to grow our offering to clients.
“We see significant opportunities for growth in this area in years ahead, and Kate will be a key part of delivering the best service to clients looking to invest in Australian real estate.”
Ms Barker added: “The opportunity to join Ashurst and work with leading partners across practice areas and offices to grow its already impressive reputation in the investment real estate sector was one I could not pass up.
“Ashurst’s collaborative approach, global outlook, entrepreneurial culture, and innovative approach to providing integrated services to clients create the right environment for growth.
“I’m very excited to join the team and help solidify its position as a leading real estate investment practice.”
