K&L Gates adds real estate partner from McInnes Wilson
Global law firm K&L Gates has moved to strengthen its real estate ranks with the appointment of a new partner for its Brisbane office.
Justin O’Callaghan (pictured) has joined K&L Gates, having come across from McInnes Wilson Lawyers, where he was a principal in the firm’s construction and infrastructure practice.
“He is well known for his ability to help clients identify market trends and opportunities, enabling them to make strategic decisions as well as deliver, operate, and maintain major construction projects,” the firm proclaimed.
The news follows the firm’s appointment of a new Australian regional managing partner, Jason Opperman, in July and its appointment of 13 new partners since December, largely with lateral hires, as reported in April.
The firm also recently introduced electric vehicle subscriptions for its staff.
In April of last year, the firm’s former Australian regional managing partner, Nick Nichola, spoke with Lawyers Weekly about the challenges and changes of the last 10 years and also how BigLaw firms can ensure longevity, here and here.
Mr Opperman said: “We are delighted to welcome Justin to the firm. He brings a wealth of experience and capability in the construction sector and adds extra depth to our real estate and energy, infrastructure and resources practices.
“These are areas where we see potential for significant growth, in particular in Brisbane, and strong interest from our local and international clients.”
Real estate practice leader Sandra Steele added: “We are excited to have Justin join our team. As Brisbane prepares to host the Olympics in 2032, Justin is well placed to strengthen our construction and infrastructure capabilities, perfectly positioning the firm to further assist our clients with their projects leading up to the event and beyond.”
