District Court Judge Kate Glancy and barrister Gary Cobby SC will commence as judges of the Supreme Court on 29 January 2024.

Attorney-General John Quigley said Judge Glancy and Mr Cobby are “highly regarded in legal circles”.

“Both have been involved in multiple, complex matters and acquired extensive court experience during legal careers spanning more than three decades,” Mr Quigley said.

“They are eminently qualified to join the Supreme Court bench, and I congratulate them on their appointment.”

Judge Glancy was admitted in 1994 and has spent 25 years rising through the State Solicitor’s Office of Western Australia.

Her work there included prosecutions, commercial drafting, civil litigation, native title litigation, mining law, advice to government on public law matters and public law litigation.

For almost six years, Judge Glancy has served as a West Australian District Court judge, presiding over criminal and civil cases.

Mr Cobby has worked as a solicitor since 1990 until he was admitted to practice as a barrister in 2008.

His expertise included administrative law, contract and property matters, insolvency, mining law, proceeds of crime, professional negligence and succession.
