6 new silks named in WA

Four men and two women have been appointed as senior counsel by the Chief Justice of Western Australia.

West Australian Law Society president Ante Golem said the profession congratulates new appointees Paul Edgar, Tina Jowett, Seamus Rafferty, Teresa Farmer, Michael Sims and Robert Owen.

“Appointment as senior counsel is a rare honour granted to those individuals who have demonstrated eminence in the practice of law.

“The appointees have proven over lengthy careers their legal talents, as well as their unquestioned integrity and independence,” Mr Golem said.

Mr Edgar was admitted in 1989 and has been a member of the Law Society since 1993. He currently practises from Quayside Chambers as an independent barrister.

Admitted in 1995, Ms Jowett has practised as an independent barrister since 2011 and currently works from Francis Burt Chambers and Sixth Floor Windeyer Chambers.

Mr Rafferty also practised as an independent barrister from the new Geoffrey Miller Chambers. He was admitted in 2002 and has been a member of the WA Law Society since 2008.

Ms Farmer was admitted in 2003 and works as an independent barrister out of John Toohey Chambers.

Mr Sims and Mr Owen were admitted in 2006 and 2008, respectively.

Mr Sims works out of Quayside Chambers, and Mr Owen has been the Director of Public Prosecutions for Western Australia since 2022.
