Samantha Smart has rejoined Squire Patton Boggs in its Perth office, bringing her practice, which focuses on energy, mining, and natural resources.

In a career spanning nearly two decades, the global firm said in a statement, Ms Smart has advised Australian and international clients on private mergers and acquisitions, sale and purchase arrangements and project development and operation across the power, energy and resources sector, including oil and gas, hard rock mining, hydrogen, carbon capture and storage and renewables projects.

She most recently served as a director at PwC, and before that, she was a senior associate and of counsel at Squire Patton Boggs and was an associate and senior associate at fellow BigLaw firm MinterEllison.

The news follows the firm’s opening of an office in Amsterdam – “Australia’s second-largest EU export market”, the firm noted earlier this month – as well as its opening of an office in Ireland in May.

Speaking about the hire, the firm head of corporate in Australia, Tony Chong, said: “Samantha is well known across our firm and by many of our key clients.

“She brings substantial expertise in important areas of focus for our practice, and we are delighted to welcome her back to the firm.”

Ms Smart added: “Rejoining Squire Patton Boggs is an exciting homecoming for me.

“The firm’s relationships and expertise across the energy and natural resources space dovetails with mine, and I am looking forward to reconnecting with former colleagues to contribute to the firm’s growth.”
