Shine expands with third class actions practice leader
Shine Lawyers now has three class action practice leaders with the appointment of a highly experienced lawyer.
Kione Johnson has joined the firm’s growing class action practice, bringing with her substantial experience as special counsel in an international law firm’s dispute resolution team.
“I’m looking forward to applying the skills and insights from my time as a defendant solicitor to the plaintiff side and helping fight for justice for thousands of deserving Australians,” Ms Johnson said.
Ms Johnson has led a number of major, complex disputes with multimillion-dollar outcomes, including successfully defending the Queensland government dam authority Seqwater in class action proceedings following the 2011 Brisbane floods.
Recognised as one of Australia’s largest class actions, the proceedings spanned 130 days and included an appeal to the NSW Court of Appeal and a High Court special leave application.
Shine said Ms Johnson, who is a graduate development coach, will also bring “high emotional and social intelligence” to the firm.
The firm said this knowledge has been applied across a number of legal projects and has helped create “operational efficiencies”.
