Attorney-General Yvette D’Ath said she was disturbed to learn four representatives from media organisations had been granted access to an unredacted court file that included the names of victims.

The media outlets were able to view the file but not take copies.

“I know these media outlets will not identify the victims, but this should simply not have occurred,” Ms D’Ath said.

“Victims rightly deserve to know their personal information is safe.”

Ms D’Ath added that measures have since been put in place to ensure this does not occur again.

She said she has also asked the acting Director-General, Michael Walsh, to conduct an “immediate and thorough investigation”.

“I sincerely apologise to the families for any undue trauma this error by the Brisbane Magistrates Court has caused,” Ms D’Ath said.
