Gilbert + Tobin appoints Ashurst counsel as new partner
National law firm Gilbert + Tobin has named a new partner for its energy and infrastructure team, who comes over from BigLaw rival Ashurst, where she served as counsel.
Lixian Liang (pictured) is joining G+T from Ashurst’s Brisbane office, where she served as counsel advising on major projects in the energy and infrastructure sectors.
She commences with the firm today (Monday, 7 August) and will be based in G+T’s Sydney office.
The news follows the hiring of a financial services partner, also from Ashurst, in early April.
It also follows G+T’s naming of four new partners and seven new special counsel in late June.
Speaking about the firm’s newest partner, G+T partners Alexander Danne and John Schembri said they are excited to welcome Ms Liang, whom they said “brings an abundance of experience across the industry and her knowledge in particular in the battery sector, would complement existing capabilities of the team”.
“We are delighted to welcome Lixian to the G+T energy and infrastructure team. She has a rare combination of deep technical and market knowledge in project development across APAC in energy, renewables, storage, and infrastructure, and is a highly respected member of the profession,” the pair said.
“Lixian’s appointment [complements] our team, and her substantial experience further strengthens our offering for our clients.”
Ms Liang added: “I am thrilled to be joining Gilbert + Tobin as a partner in the energy and infrastructure team.”
“The energy transition and changes in the infrastructure market present rapidly evolving opportunities and challenges for our clients. I am looking forward to being part of the impressive team at Gilbert + Tobin serving our clients at this critical time.”
