Emergency services were called to Greenacre in Sydney’s south-west at about 10:30am on Wednesday (26 July) and arrived to find Sydney solicitor Mahmoud Abbas with gunshot wounds.

Mr Abbas, a partner with Abbas Jacobs Lawyers, was treated at the scene and taken to hospital in serious but stable condition.

He has represented a number of high-profile clients, including former Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer.

According to reports, police believed he was on the street when an unknown offender approached and shot him.

Officers from Bankstown, the State Crime Command’s Criminal Group, and the Raptor Squad are currently investigating.

There have been a number of recent shootings in the same area, including underworld figure Mahmoud Ahmad last year. There is no suggestion the new shooting is connected.

We're evolving — and so should your insights. Heads up — Lawyers Weekly is going premium from 1 May for just $5 a month. Stay informed without missing a beat. More information coming soon.
