Peter Hewish (pictured) has joined McCabes, marking the seventh new principal the firm has hired since the start of 2023.

The firm’s recent expansion includes the taking of a team from BigLaw rival HWL Ebsworth in late March, the addition of four insurance principals (as reported by Lawyers Weekly in early March), and a new corporate principal in February.

McCabes also promoted nine professionals to more senior roles in late December of last year.

In a statement, McCabes listed that Mr Hewish is an “experienced” estate planning lawyer, having spent 17 years of his career at Australian Executor Trustees Limited, with the latter 11 of those years spent as national manager of estate planning.

He brings more than three decades of experience in estate planning, business succession, national team management, and business development.

Speaking about the appointment, practice group leader Terry McCabe said that Mr Hewish is a “skilled and accomplished” addition to the firm.

“It is a great achievement to bring Mr Hewish to the private clients group. He has cemented himself as an expert in his field, and his appointment means that we have added a strong leader and proven practitioner to the group,” he said.

McCabes managing principal Andrew Lacey shared Mr McCabes’ sentiments, noting: “Mr Hewish has a proven track record that will add depth, influence, and initiative to our commercial division. His deep understanding of estate planning will drive outstanding results and will strengthen our capabilities as a firm.”
