Ashurst had appointed partners Patricia Paton and Jo En Low (both pictured) as partners, following the firm’s recent elevation of 25 lawyers globally to its partnership, 13 of whom are Australian.
Ms Paton comes over from national firm Hamilton Locke, while Ms Low joins from the London office of Houston-headquartered international firm Bracewell LLP, where she was co-chair of that firm’s global environmental, social and governance (ESG) practice.
Both will be based in Ashurst’s Sydney office.
Speaking about the hires, Ashurst partner and Australian corporate transactions co-head Anton Harris said that the firm is “delighted” to welcome the pair.
“Patricia is a capital markets expert who has a deep understanding of the regulatory landscape. She will bolster the firm’s core offering for corporate clients, investment banks and corporate advisers,” he said.
“Jo En will help the firm’s strategy in expanding its focus on energy transition-related deals. Her sector expertise and experience in advising private equity clients will add bench strength to our practice as energy M&A continues to grow.”
Ms Paton is an equity capital markets partner who has almost two decades of experience advising on corporate and capital markets transactions in the listed and unlisted space, while Ms Low is a merger and acquisition partner with more than a decade of experience and who advises financial investors and major international corporates in the renewable energy sector.
Ms Paton said: “I am excited to join Ashurst and eager to begin working with the broader team. The firm’s global network and commercial focus make it a compelling platform for me to expand my practice.”
Mr Low added: “I’m excited to join the Ashurst team in Sydney. Ashurst’s global offering outlook, strength in the Australian market and industry focus make it a compelling firm to house my practice, which is focused entirely on partnering with clients to deliver on their strategic objectives.”
“It is inspiring to join a firm that shares my clients’ optimism and enthusiasm to pursue the opportunities presented by the energy transition.”
