Meridian adds another team from McCabes
National law firm Meridian Lawyers has continued to expand its national insurance practice group with hires from fellow BigLaw firm McCabes — this time a team of eight lawyers and five paralegals.
Meridian’s insurance team continues to grow, with the appointment of principals Matthew McDonald and Paul Garnon, consultant Peter Ford, associates Simon de Chasteigner du Mee, Talia Mason and Allana Robertson, as well as two graduates and five paralegals.
The team’s arrival at Meridian marks the second cohort to come over from McCabes in recent times, after a team of 14 lawyers, plus support staff, moved across earlier this month, as first reported by Lawyers Weekly.
The news follows Meridian’s hiring of a new insurance principal in late November, a medical negligence principal in August, and its promotion of five to more senior roles and appointment of a new chief commercial officer, both in June 2022, here and here.
It also follows McCabes’ own run of high-profile hires of late, including having taken a team from HWL Ebsworth in late March and hiring four new principals in recent months, as first reported by Lawyers Weekly.
Speaking about the additional hires for the firm’s insurance practice, Meridian managing director Paul Baker said: “I am excited to be welcoming the high-calibre expertise of Matthew McDonald, Paul Garnon and Peter Ford. Matthew, Paul, and Peter bring with them a wealth of experience, a strong track record of success, and a passion for developing young talent.
“I look forward to having them on board and welcome members of their team to Meridian. Their substantial experience and approach to client service is an excellent fit with the capabilities and culture of our firm.”
Meridian, which was founded in 2004, has over 150 staff and close to 30 principals across its five offices in Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.
