Overnight (Wednesday, 26 April), Allen & Overy named 36 new partners, who will assume their new roles on 1 May 2023.

Of the 36 new partners, 15 are women, making up 42 per cent of the promoted cohort.

The global firm has appointed 12 new partners in its banking practice, 11 in corporate, six in litigation, four in international capital markets and three in tax.

The promotions come from 13 of A&O’s offices globally, including 12 in London and new partners named in its offices across Continental Europe, Asia, the US and Africa.

The three Australians who have been made partners are William Kim (banking, Sydney), Lisa Emanuel (corporate, Sydney) and Daniel Harris (corporate, Sydney).

The news follows the promotion of 13 Australians to partner at Ashurst in mid-April, 10 to partner at Herbert Smith Freehills the next day (as well as seven to counsel earlier this week), the naming of a new CFO at Colin Biggers & Paisley yesterday (Wednesday, 26 April), and the appointment of two new principals at Russell Kennedy, also reported this week.

A&O global managing partner Gareth Price offered congratulations to all of the firm’s new partners worldwide.

“The group reflects a very diverse range of talent,” he proclaimed.

“I’m also pleased to see a strong geographical spread and a breadth of practice and product specialisms, reflecting the quality and global reach of our new partners.

“Each member of the cohort brings different expertise and a wealth of experience in providing exceptional service to our clients,”

We're evolving — and so should your insights. Heads up — Lawyers Weekly is going premium from 1 May for just $5 a month. Stay informed without missing a beat. More information coming soon.
