Lawyers Weekly is pleased to launch the annual Australian Law Awards 2023, which is now in its 23rd year.

Submit an entry or nominate a worthy colleague by Thursday, 18 May 2023, for a chance to walk away with the prestigious awards.

For over two decades, the awards have shone a light on and recognised the leading legal professionals and firms that have been consistently excelling in their roles while propelling the industry forward.

The awards programme celebrates the achievements of a wide range of legal professionals, including managing partners, general counsel, barristers, legal scholars, as well as the rising stars of tomorrow.

There are 22 individual and 17 group categories on offer this year for a wide range of legal professionals, including academics, insurance teams, in-house counsel, and partners.

Individual categories include Academic of the Year, Barrister of the Year, Legal Support Professional of the Year, and Managing Partner of the Year.

Group categories include Banking and Finance Team of the Year, Commercial Team of the Year, Pro Bono Program of the Year, and Transaction Team of the Year.

The awards will also acknowledge the hard work and dedication of mentors, innovators, and firms with the best wellness initiatives.

The highest-scoring winner will receive the coveted Excellence Award, which is open to both individual and group winners.

Last year, this award was given to Corrs Chambers Westgarth, which won the Property Team of the Year award and was a finalist in six other group categories.

The program will culminate in a black-tie gala ceremony on Friday, 11 August 2023, at The Star in Sydney. Click here to buy tickets.

The ceremony will showcase the depth of talent of legal professionals and firms across Australia, provide national recognition to the best and brightest individuals and firms, and affirm the sector’s essential role in supporting the expansion of Australia.

Winning an award will distinguish individuals and firms from their peers, help firms attract and retain the best talent, and strengthen their position when winning and retaining business.

It will also underpin career advancement for individual legal professionals.

Judged by a well-respected panel of professionals, the awards are a recognition of the capabilities of legal professionals and firms and their passion for ensuring the industry prospers.

Lawyers Weekly editor Jerome Doraisamy said: “The annual Australian Law Awards is the peak award program for legal professionals of all stripes nationwide. Period.

“Gaining recognition at this awards program is an enormous boon for lawyers, and it is our honour to acknowledge and celebrate those individuals and teams for their laudable achievements.

“We look forward to raising a glass to you all on the night!”
