Tabet Group buys inner-city Melbourne hotel
Rigby Cooke Lawyers has advised hotel investor and developer, Mazen Tabet and the Tabet Group, in the successful acquisition of a boutique hotel located in Melbourne’s South Yarra.
Firm: Rigby Cooke Lawyers (Mazen Tabet and Tabet Group).
Value: Undisclosed.
Area: M&A.
Key players: The Rigby Cooke Lawyers team was led by Bill Karvela, managing partner and group leader of the firm’s corporate and commercial practice.
Deal significance: The Lyall Hotel and Spa is a boutique hotel located in the Melbourne inner-city suburb of South Yarra.
The hotel is currently undergoing a complete re-design and refurbishment, including a transformation of the hotel’s 49 elegant rooms and suites, and an expansion of the hotel’s restaurant and cocktail bar. The hotel will re-open in early 2023 and align with the opening of the luxury Royce Hotel.
“Rigby Cooke Lawyers is very proud to be associated with the Tabet Group and its acquisition of the Lyall Hotel and Spa,” said Mr Karvela, commenting on behalf of the firm.
“This acquisition is a further step in the Tabet Group expanding its extensive hotel accommodation portfolio. The Lyall Hotel and Spa will complement the Royce Hotel with which we were also involved in, both at acquisition stage and construction stage."
“We are very proud to continue our association with the Tabet Group which started with the disposition of the Bundoora Hotel in 1999. Since that time, we have seen the Tabet Group portfolio grow exponentially through the acquisition of quality assets such as the Skyways Hotel, Lynbrook Hotel, Highlands Hotel and the Village Belle Hotel, just to name a few.
“We look forward to continuing to work with the Tabet Group and its ongoing success.”
Also commenting on the recent acquisition, Mazen Tabet said: “We are proud to pay homage to The Lyall Hotel’s founders, Rowina and Peter Thomas, and the unrivalled reputation they have developed for the property. The Royce management team will continue to offer the impeccable service and intimate setting the hotel is renowned for.”
