Marnie Fels (pictured) has joined A&O as a partner in the Asia-Pacific banking practice and global leveraged finance practice.

She specialises, the firm said in a statement, in leveraged and acquisition finance, and her practice focuses on global and domestic private equity sponsors and large corporates as well as banks and financial institutions.

She joins the firm from Herbert Smith Freehills.

Speaking about the appointment, A&O co-heads of global leveraged finance Denise Gibson and Nick Clark said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Marnie to the team.

“Her appointment will create fantastic opportunities for the leveraged finance practice domestically and is another milestone in our continued investment in our global offering, which we are incredibly proud of.”

A&O co-head of global private equity Robin Harvey added: “Marnie’s appointment means we now have a top-tier domestic and international offering for our private equity sponsor clients doing business in Australia.”

And Sydney banking partner David Walter said: “Marnie’s expertise strengthens our banking and corporate offering in Sydney. Her appointment enables us to offer sponsor-side leveraged finance services to our clients as a standalone practice in Australia.

“With the Australian leveraged finance market increasingly looking to the US (and the UK) for techniques and capital, there are strong opportunities for collaboration between our Sydney, London and New York teams.”
