Ashurst appoints new partner
Global law firm Ashurst has appointed a new partner to its digital economy team.
Mathew Baldwin is set to return to Ashurst as part of the firm’s Canberra office expansion in serving the legal needs of Australian government services in digital and data projects.
“Mathew will be a valuable resource for our clients as they navigate this increasingly complex and fast-changing environment.”
Mr Baldwin brings with him extensive experience working in government, specialising in intellectual property, data protection/privacy and technology transfer, from his previous roles as a member of the ACT government’s procurement board and as legal counsel for digital productivity and services flagship at CSIRO.
“Matthew is well known in the Canberra market and has strong networks across the public sector,” said Canberra-based digital economy partner Angela Summersby.
“We look forward to working with him to expand our government-focused digital economy practice and continue to deliver top-tier service to the sector.”
Mr Baldwin previously worked as a senior associate for Blake Dawson (now Ashurst) and Clayton Utz, where he aided both commercial and government clients on data protection and privacy.
He also brings deep knowledge of telecommunications and health from his time working as a managing associate for TMP/IP at Linklaters, where he was involved in the rollout of wireless and fixed-network projects for network providers.
Mr Baldwin said he is excited by the opportunity given and keen to develop the firm’s bench strength.
“Ashurst has an impressive global digital economy practice, and the firm is well placed to further grow its offering to the Australian government and broader Canberra market,” he said.
“Recent events demonstrate the importance of both government and private sector organisations closely managing cyber security and digital transformation.”
