Holman Webb reveals new chairman
Holman Webb Lawyers’ chairman has stepped down after almost a decade of leadership — and will be replaced by a female chair.
The corporate, commercial and insurance law firm has appointed Wendy MacDonnell, partner within the firm’s insurance group, to replace litigation and dispute resolution partner John Wakefield, effective immediately.
Mr Wakefield has held the chairman position since 2013 and will continue to lead the firm’s litigation and dispute resolution group; and will carry on in his role as an arbitrator and mediator.
“I am extremely proud of the firm’s journey in the last nine years and what we have accomplished together. Holman Webb is not only a market leader in the provision of client services. The firm has a strong culture with a focus in inclusion and sustainability. It is a very happy place to work,” he said.
“I am really delighted that Wendy is taking on the role of chairman. She will bring a significant depth of knowledge, experience and common sense to the position as well as great warmth and approachability.”
Ms MacDonnell’s new appointment coincides with her 30-year anniversary at the firm, after joining in June 1992. She has practised in insurance litigation for over 25 years, primarily in the public and product liability areas.
“John achieved a great deal in his almost 10 years, but it is perhaps the last few years which were the most important. Under his guidance, Holman Webb moved offices, achieved significant technological advancement, and became ‘paper light’ — enabling staff to work from home at full capacity,” Ms MacDonnell said.
“As I proudly step into the position of chairman, I plan to draw on the fantastic legacy and platform that John has built. With the ongoing support of all within the firm, I look forward to playing a pivotal role in taking Holman Webb Lawyers to the next level.”
