Firms: Hall & Wilcox (Maggie Beer Holdings); Undisclosed (Goulburn Valley Creamery)

Deal: Goulburn Valley Creamery has acquired St David Dairy from Maggie Beer Holdings.

Value: Undisclosed

Area: Merger and acquisition

Key players: The Hall & Wilcox team was led by partner James Morvell and special counsel Vanessa Murphy, with assistance from lawyers Michael Henderson and Aron Mazur.

Deal significance: St David Dairy is described as Melbourne’s only micro-dairy, processing and packaging milk from the inner-city suburb of Fitzroy.

The sale of St David Dairy comes as Maggie Beer Holdings looks to focus on its core growth assets: Maggie Beer Products and Hampers & Gifts Australia, according to a statement from Hall & Wilcox, which also advised on the acquisition of the latter last year.

Special counsel Vanessa Murphy said the sale of St David Dairy comes at an opportune time for the Maggie Beer Holdings business.

“It was great to work with the Maggie Beer team again on its strategic divestment of this Melbourne-based dairy business, aligned with its strategy to focus on its core assets following the Hampers & Gifts acquisition last year,” she said.

Commenting further, Maggie Beer Holdings director and chief executive Chantale Millard said: “St David Dairy is an iconic Melbourne brand and we are very pleased that we have been able to complete the sale, with all staff remaining with its new owners, meaning a seamless transition for our teams, customers and suppliers.”
