Firm: Piper Alderman (Normet)

Deal: Piper Alderman has advised Finland-based group Normet on entering an agreement to acquire Garock, an industry leader in ground support development and operations.

Value: Undisclosed

Area: Mergers and acquisitions, mining and civil industries

Key players: The Piper Alderman team was led by corporate partner James Dickson and senior associate Liam Higgins, with support from partners Tim O’Callaghan, Emily Haar, Adam Rinaldi and their teams.

Deal significance: Ed Santamaria, president and chief executive of Normet, said: “This is a strategic acquisition for Normet in the Asia-Pacific market with impact on our global ground support business.”

Piper Alderman assisted Normet in due diligence, preliminary negotiations of the deal, drafting and negotiating of the agreement to completion. The extended team advised on intellectual property, employment and real property issues throughout the transaction.

Mr Dickson said: “It was a pleasure to have advised Normet on this important transaction and to support Normet on its continued growth, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.”

Normet has over 1,600 employees that operate in 30 countries as they continue to expand their underground mining and construction infrastructure capabilities.

“With Garock, Australia will become Normet’s global centre for rock reinforcement R&D [research and development] with the ability to innovate in the future,” Mr Santamaria said.
