Allens has advised Norwegian energy company Equinor on its collaboration with Oceanex Energy to explore offshore wind opportunities in NSW.
Firm: Allens (Equinor)
Value: N/A
Area: Corporate
Key players: The team was led by partner Jacqui Rowell and supported by partners Michelle Bennett and Melissa Keane.
They were assisted by senior associate Jonathon Holborn, associate Mayuri Dharmakulasingam, and lawyers Paige Pittorino, William Gordon and Jessica Baker.
Along with corporate and FIRB partner Wendy Rae, intellectual property partner Joel Barrett, funds partner Stephanie Malon, and tax managing associate Tom Tian.
Deal significance: The transaction is one of the first of its kind in Australia, with the new industry growing at an increasing pace as a result of the recent introduction of a new legislative framework facilitating the development of offshore wind projects.
“Offshore wind is an important element in the country’s energy transition,” Allens said in a statement.
“Allens has been at the forefront of the emergence of Australia’s renewable sector.”
“We are very pleased to have advised Equinor on this significant transaction with Oceanex,” said Ms Rowell.
“Equinor is a world class offshore wind developer and operator, and an exciting new entrant to the Australian offshore wind market.”
The transaction is expected to be completed in late 2022, subject to regulatory approvals.
