Jalna advised on sale of company to world’s largest dairy business
HWL Ebsworth has advised on the sale of Jalna Dairy Foods (Jalna) to the world’s largest dairy business Lactalis Group.
Firm: HWL Ebsworth (Jalna); DLA Piper (Lactalis Group).
Value: N/A
Area: Corporate
Key players: The HWL Ebsworth team was led by partner Jeremy McCarthy and special counsel Paul Lewis, and supported by James Lofting, Richard Westmoreland, Chris Egan, Matt Craven and Maliq Maideen. The DLA Piper deal team was led by Jyoti Singh and Sarah Wilson.
Deal significance: Lactalis already holds extensive assets in Australia and has expanded its business with the acquisition of the well-known Jalna yoghurt brand, along with a yoghurt production facility in Melbourne and an organic milk farm in northern Victoria.
Jalna is a fully integrated, paddock-to-pot dairy business that produces pot set yoghurts. They manufacture the majority of their containers and operate a biodynamic farm, with a strong focus on Greek, organic and all-natural yoghurts.
HWL Ebsworth, the largest legal partnership in Australia, is comprised of 274 partners. The deal is one of many HWL Ebsworth has advised on in the dairy sector.
They have previously advised the founders of Barambah Organics in a transaction that saw asset management firm Tanarra Capital make a significant investment into the dairy business.
The firm now churns out organic milk, yoghurt, cream and cheese products both locally and globally.
