Clayton Utz appoints public sector partner
Clayton Utz has appointed a new partner, Robert Dearn, to its public sector practice in Canberra.

Mr Dearn is a digital, data and technology specialist lawyer, with a primary focus on advising Commonwealth government clients on complex digital transformation projects and other high-profile government initiatives. He has advised both the Australian and US governments on major digital health projects and programs, as well as on the adoption of technology and data-driven products and services.
He regularly advises clients on IP ownership and licensing, privacy and data protection issues, data-sharing arrangements, strategic outsourcing and procurements and regulatory compliance programs.
Mr Dearn said he was pleased to join a firm that he has long admired as market-leading.
“Clayton Utz has a well-deserved reputation as a trusted adviser to governments across Australia,” said Mr Dearn.
“I’m looking forward to joining the team in Canberra — which includes a number of former colleagues — and continuing to build on that reputation.”
Clayton Utz chief executive partner Bruce Cooper commented: “Our clients will benefit from Robert’s experience in successfully navigating the legal and regulatory issues associated with complex digital transformation projects.
“With both governments and corporations continuing to focus on their digital transformation agendas, Robert’s appointment is timely.”
