The nine elected member directors of the Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) are Tania Wolff, Matthew Hibbins, Rodd Levy, Tom Ballantyne, Kathy Wilson, Molina Asthana, Louisa Gibbs, Juliana Smith and Rebecca Johnston-Ryan.

The new board will thus comprise nine member directors, of which one is in the suburban category, one in the regional and five are incumbent directors from the previous board.

Terms of office of the new directors are determined according to their place in the electoral poll.

Mr Hibbins, Ms Wolff and Mr Levy will hold office until the conclusion of the 2025 AGM.

Mr Ballantyne, Ms Wilson (suburban category) and Ms Asthana will hold office until the conclusion of the 2024 AGM, and Ms Gibbs, Ms Smith (regional category) and Ms Johnston-Ryan will hold office until the conclusion of the 2023 AGM.

Departing board members are Rebecca Alexander, Emily Allan, Caitlin Baker, Elly Blizzard, Caroline Counsel (LIV president 2011), Lauren Crome, Marlene Ebejer, Tom May, Zubair Mian, John McPherson and Stuart Webb (LIV president 2019).

Ms Wolff will retain the position of president in the interim until the first board meeting after the LIV’s AGM in November 2022.

Speaking about the changes, Ms Wolff said: “Individually and collectively, these former board members have made a significant and impactful contribution to the LIV.

“They have applied their expertise and dedicated their time and effort as leaders in the legal profession, to support the LIV’s important role as the roof body of solicitors in this state and in upholding the rule of law, access to and the administration of justice. They leave behind a strong legacy on which the new board will build.

“On behalf of the LIV, I thank all the candidates who stood for election, for offering their skills and time to the benefit of the institute, and also those who voted in the election for playing their part in forming the next board of the LIV.”

The LIV is currently seeking up to three non-member directors to join the board.
