International hydroponic business sold
Piper Alderman has advised an international hydroponic business on its sale to Scotts Miracle-Gro/Hawthorne Gardening.

Value: US$34 million (plus contingent US$10 million)

Key players: The Piper Alderman team was led by commercial partner Simon Venus, who was supported by senior associate Adela Sajevic, lawyers Daniel Shizas and law clerk Monique Blight.
Deal significance: Cyco Nutrients is described as a premium brand of hydroponic nutrients, plant additives and growing media used by commercial and domestic growers around the world. The business has grown from an Australian start-up to a global brand with an international footprint and global sales and distribution network, a statement from Piper Alderman noted.
Commenting on the transaction, Piper Alderman lead partner Simon Venus said: “It was a pleasure working with the team at Cyco Nutrients and I thank them for entrusting us to act on the sale. The whole sell-side deal team collaborated over months of hard work to achieve a result.”
Meanwhile, Cyco’s founder Shaun Jones said: “Simon and his team showed great dedication to this cross-border deal to get it across the line.
“Working with counterparts in New York and across the US, they stayed focused on a client outcome and I am very pleased with the results, their culture of service and attention to detail.”
