Judge approves teddy bear adoption
In a really heart-warming move, the Family Court of Western Australia has approved a seven-year-old boy’s sweet request to adopt his teddy bears.
In response to his adoption request of six teddies, a judge of the Western Australian Family Court – whose name was anonymised – informed the young boy that this had been granted under the “International Teddy Act 1908”.
The court order, titled “In the matter of Mr Denham, Baby Denham, Brown Bear, Bamboo, Special Teddy Jnr and Tiny”, was held “before a teddy in chambers”.
“Application having been made under the International Teddy Act 1908 for an adoption order in relation to a hug of teddies known as Mr D, Baby D, Brown Bear, Bamboo, Special Teddy Jnr and Tiny who reside in … Western Australia,” it read.
“It is ordered that the said Mr D, Baby D, Brown Bear, Bamboo, Special Teddy Jnr and Tiny be adopted by [the boy] to be treated lovingly as child and teddies.”
In a later tweet, Dr Bright said he was glad to have shared the letter as it “seems to have touched so many people” and it was “nice to be able to pay it forward”.
