Former deputy general counsel of the Reserve Bank of Australia, commercial counsel Peter Jones will join Hall & Wilcox’s finance practice based in Sydney.

Commenting on the appointment, managing partner Tony Macvean said that the calibre of Mr Jones’ experience and his reputation within the finance sector “will make him a great asset to our firm and our teams”.

“Peter will play a key role in leading our finance practice in Sydney. Peter will also play a broader role in our corporate and regulatory practices. Peter is well known to us through the work we do with Note Printing Australia (as subsidiary of the Reserve Bank), and we think it will be a fantastic fit,” Mr Macvean said.

Mr Jones, who was also general counsel at Tassal Group and partner at Allens, said Hall & Wilcox stood out to him as a firm with a focus on clients, people and systems.

“Everything I have experienced since joining has reinforced that view,” Mr Jones said. “I’m looking forward to playing a part in Hall & Wilcox’s role as a leading independent Australian law firm.”
