BigLaw firm Gilbert + Tobin has bolstered its climate change and environmental, social and governance credentials with the appointment of a new banking and projects partner from global practice Baker McKenzie.
Ilona Millar (pictured), whom G+T described in a statement as “one of the world’s leading climate change lawyers”, was appointed as a partner in its banking and projects practice.
Her recruitment, the firm continued, “strengthens G+T’s reputation as a leading Australian advisor on all legal aspects of climate change and ESG matters [and] positions G+T to be the go-to firm for carbon markets transactions, decarbonisation and energy transition projects, climate risk governance and climate litigation”.
Speaking about the appointment, managing partner Danny Gilbert said: “Managing climate change will obviously be a critical issue for the Australian economy and for our clients.
“Corporations will come under increasing scrutiny on how they serve society and that will impact their future performance. As legal advisors, it’s crucial that we remain at the forefront of the thinking in this space.”
“We are delighted that Ilona is joining the G+T team and her extensive expertise will assist us greatly in shaping our strategic approach to ESG, how we develop our practice and offer our clients the best possible advice.”
