LCA acknowledges practitioners on Australia Day 2022 Honours List
The Law Council has congratulated the members of the legal profession who were recognised for their service to the law in the Australia Day 2022 Honours List.

Law Council of Australia (LCA) president Tass Liveris said it was “gratifying” to see a significant number of lawyers recognised for their service on the 2022 list.
“Through their advocacy on behalf of their community and our profession and their dedicated representation of their clients, lawyers make a positive difference in the lives of so many Australians,” Mr Liveris commented.
Mr Liveris acknowledged those who volunteered as members of the Law Council sections and commended them for helping the LCA in the development of policies, submissions and initiatives, “which have improved access to justice for all, the health and wellbeing of the profession, and the laws governing our nation”.
“Congratulations to current and former members of the Law Council sections including: business law section: the Honourable Tony Pagone, the Honourable Justice Michael Slattery, Ian Nosworthy, Alan Wein and Kevin O’Rourke; international law section and legal practice section: Stephen Macliver; and family law section: the Honourable Garry Watts,” Mr Liveris said.
The following were recognised for their services to the law:
Alan David Wein for significant service to business and to the community
Allan Anforth for significant service to the law, to social welfare and to education
Professor Heather Anne Douglas for significant service to tertiary law education and to the community
John Michael Dowling for significant service to intellectual property law and to professional associations
Professor Emerita Andrea Durbach for significant service to the law, to human rights and to tertiary education
Stephen John Macliver for significant service to the law, to human rights and to the community
Ian David Nosworthy for significant service to the law, particularly arbitration, and to professional associations
The Honourable Gaetano (Tony) Pagone for significant service to the law, to the judiciary and to professional associations
John Hunter Ralston for significant service to international human rights law
The Honourable Justice Michael John Slattery AM for significant service to the law, to the judiciary and to professional legal associations
The Honourable Garry Allan Watts for significant service to the law, to the judiciary, particularly to the Family Court
Professor John Matthew Williams for significant service to tertiary education, to the law and to professional organisations
Colonel Penelope Anne Saultry CSC for exceptional service to the Australian Defence Force in law and international jurisprudence
Jo-Anne Bragg for service to environmental law
Ian Russell Davis for service to the community and to the law
Alan Peterson Frees for service to education administration and to the law
Donald Rees Magarey for service to the law and to music
Professor Bronwyn Glynis Naylor for service to tertiary education and to the law
Kevin John O’Rourke for service to the law
Professor Helen Margaret Rhoades for service to the law, particularly to policy reform and legal research
