The firm has named Michaela Bartonkova, who heads up its Ipswich office, and Michael Donelly from its Melbourne class actions team as its newest principals. Workplace injury lawyer Holly Pinnis and employment and industrial law specialist Michael McIver have been promoted to special counsel.

Elsewhere, the new senior associates are Rohan Tate, Samuel Taylor, Karla Deane, Elizabeth Vasta, Jessica Rajagopalan, Gezime Vasic, Roisin Lyng, Ashleigh Harrison, Liam Hanlon, Katherine Bedford, Simon Gilbert-Kent, Leah O’Keefe and Katie Murphy.

And the firm’s newest associates are Troy Tonkin, Lauren O’Neill, Brandan Cooper, Daniel Clarke, Jack Faine, Alex Maxwell, Kristyn Knox, Cassie Green, Mitchell Turner, Heather Kerley, Karl Shami, Anita Arian, Janine Foo and Penny Parker.

The promotions are effective as of 1 January 2022.

Maurice Blackburn chief executive Jacob Varghese congratulated the 31 on their new roles.

“Each promotion is well-earned, with successful applicants living our values, contributing to the success of the firm, and displaying leadership qualities,” he said.

“We are fortunate at Maurice Blackburn to be able to draw on the contributions of so many talented, skilled and committed individuals to deliver great outcomes for our clients.”

Mr Varghese noted that the promotions reflected the gender diversity of the firm and recognised staff across a number of states and practice areas.

“Eighteen women and 13 men make up the new promotions, which span our offices across five mainland states and the Northern Territory,” he said.

“The promotions also reflect our talent across all practice areas, including injury law, class actions, super and insurance, abuse, wills and estates, employment law and social justice.”
