Sarah Kay will step into her new role as Tasmania’s Solicitor-General after spending five years as the Assistant Solicitor-General and will provide high-level advice to the government and the Crown on a broad range of complex legal and constitutional matters.
Ms Kay will be the first-ever female Solicitor-General in Tasmania since the office was established in 1825 and brings with her over 25 years of experience as a legal practitioner.
In a statement, Elise Archer, Attorney-General and minister for justice, commented: “I personally congratulate Ms Kay on her appointment and look forward to working with her on a range of matters into the future.
“I would also like to thank the outgoing Solicitor-General, Michael O’Farrell SC, for his substantial service to our state over the last seven years, and wish him well for the future when he officially departs the role on 24 December 2021.”
