New construction partner Joshua Saunders joins the Baker McKenzie Sydney team from Lendlease, where he was previously the deputy head of legal. He has over two decades of legal experience, including extensive familiarity with key investment and risk approval processes in complex corporate environments.

Baker McKenzie’s national managing partner, Anthony Foley, said that the appointment would support further growth within the construction practice.

“Joshua comes to us with a broad range of important skills in the transport, utilities, telecommunications and renewables sectors,” he said.

“Taken together with the recent addition of Matt Coleman as a partner in our construction team in Melbourne, Joshua’s recruitment in Sydney reflects the growth and ambition of our construction, infrastructure and project work.”

Baker McKenzie’s head of construction in Australia, Leigh Duthie, stated: “Joshua is an exceptional lawyer who has reliable experience in complex contractual arrangements in major infrastructure projects, including PPPs, joint ventures, O&M and D&C contracts.

“In addition to his front end and negotiation experience, Joshua is a skilled and capable construction and commercial disputes lawyer.

When asked what it means to join Baker McKenzie, Mr Saunders said that he was “excited to join a leading global law firm in a market-leading construction practice”.

“I look forward to working with a truly impressive team across a diverse client base.
