Peter Harmer has been appointed to the role, replacing retiring chair Duncan West.

Mr Harmer, whose appointment at Lawcover comes into effect on 30 September, brings over four decades’ worth of experience in both local and international insurance and financial sectors.

Throughout his career he has previously served as chief executive of Insurance Australia Group (IAG), CGU Insurance, Aon Limited UK, Aon Risk Services (APAC), and Aon Re Australia.

“Peter brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Lawcover, both as a senior executive and a non-executive director,” Lawcover CEO Kerrie Lalich said.

“He is well placed to help us build on the substantial achievements of retiring Chair Duncan West, as we continue our work on behalf of the legal profession.”

Retiring chair, Mr West added: “After more than nine years as a director of Lawcover and five of those in the Chair, I am delighted to welcome Peter to the Board and into the Chair.

“Peter is an outstanding insurance executive with a deep focus on customers and innovation which will be a real asset for Lawcover in the coming years.”

Mr Harmer said he was thrilled to take on the new role at Lawcover.

“I am delighted to be joining the Board of Lawcover, who I have always admired as a focused, highly professional business serving the risk management and insurance needs of its customers,” he added.

“I’m looking forward to working with fellow directors and management as we continue to build on the impressive foundations that have already been laid.”
