The global law firm has just announced a bonus scheme in recognition of all staff over the past 12 months and their contribution to the company’s response to COVID-19.

Clyde & Co will pay a universal 3 per cent bonus to all its employees – approximately 3,600 people around the world – with a minimum payment of £1,000, meaning that a number of staff will receive a higher percentage.

The firm has done extremely well in response to the pandemic: 100 per cent of the money received from the UK government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme was paid back by the end of 2020 and the annual salary review and promotions process was deferred by less than a year. The annual salary review is taking place as normal in 2021 and the initially deferred fee-earner hours bonuses have been paid out in full.

The one-off bonus for all employees will be paid in the next pay round and is completely separate to the chargeable hours and discretionary bonus schemes already in place.

Matthew Kelsall, Clyde & Co’s chief executive, said that staff deserved the bonus and had worked extremely hard over the course of the last year.

“The response of our people to the pandemic and all of the personal and professional pressures that came with it was extraordinary. Thanks to everyone’s efforts and their dedication to serving our clients, who themselves needed support in these unprecedented times, we have continued to perform strongly,” he said.

“We’re pleased to be able to recognise everyone’s contribution and say thank you through this bonus.”
