First witnesses named ahead of Crown royal commission
The first lot of witnesses has been revealed ahead of the royal commission into the Crown, which kicks off on Monday from 10am.

The Royal Commission into the Casino Operator and Licence (RCCOL) officially begins its first public hearings on Monday and is expected to last for a period of six weeks.
Topics the commission will discuss with the first four witnesses are “matters related to the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation as the regulator of Crown Casino, and its investigation of the arrests in China”, as well as “junket operations”.
The $5 million royal commission will examine the business’ suitability to hold its Victorian casino licence, as well as the suitability of its associates.
Raymond Finkelstein QC is the commissioner and chairperson of the royal commission, which will be available to live stream over the course of running.
“The public hearings are an important part of the investigations of the Commission, and allow the Commission to gather information and evidence about the suitability of Crown Melbourne Limited to hold a casino licence,” the commission’s website stated.
Mr Finkelstein said all submissions will be important in framing the commission’s work, with a report due by 1 August 2021.
“The work of the Royal Commission is important to the fabric of our society and I am keen to hear directly from people with experience relevant to the work we are undertaking,” he said.
