The review was announced in mid-December by Woolworths Group into Endeavour Group’s move to develop a Dan Murphy’s store in Darwin, and will be responsible for providing a report to the Woolworths board about the adequacy and nature of stakeholder engagement relevant to the Darwin Dan Murphy’s development, including with respect to public health concerns, the extent to which stakeholder concerns were factored into decision-making, and best practices as they may apply to the supply and sale of alcohol from the proposed Darwin Dan Murphy’s development, particularly as it impacts the lives and best interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Danny Gilbert will be the chair of the panel, with other panel members including Menzies School of Health Research distinguished honorary fellow Heather D'Antoine, Indigenous Land Corporation director Neil Westbury PSM, Larrakia Development Corporation chief executive and former Crown prosecutor Nigel Browne, and INPEX Northern Territory general manager Roland Houareau.

Speaking about the panel, Mr Gilbert said he is “pleased with the diversity of experience of those who have accepted my invitation to be part of the IPR into the proposed Darwin Dan Murphy’s development”.

“Work has commenced, and the panel plans to deliver its findings to the Woolworths Group Board by the end of March,” he said.

The review is set to be assisted by Accenture.

Woolworths Group will make a final decision about the future of the proposed development following completion of the panel’s review and subsequent report, which – once received – will be publicly released, with all recommendations to be made being taken into account in its decision-making.
